Modern legal education requires not only profound theoretical knowledge but also an understanding of the real mechanisms behind the functioning of the judicial system. In accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 — “Quality Education,” the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics of the Faculty of Law at al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues to actively implement practice-oriented learning formats aimed at strengthening the professional competencies of future legal specialists.

As part of this work, under the guidance of Candidate of Juridical Sciences and Assistant Professor of the department M. U. Dosanov, with the academic supervision of the Head of the Department, Doctor of Juridical Sciences, Professor R. E. Dzhansarayeva, and with the support of the leadership of Almaty district courts, a field training session was organized for master’s students of the Faculty of Law. The session took place at the Medeu District Court No. 2 and the Specialized Interdistrict Administrative Court of Almaty.

The purpose of the event was to familiarize students with the specifics of administering justice, real practices of applying legislation, and the role of the court in ensuring constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens. Judges and court staff provided detailed explanations on current issues such as compliance with procedural deadlines, the significance of forensic examinations as evidence, and the particularities of handling criminal, civil, and administrative cases.

The master’s students had the opportunity to observe the court’s work from the inside, learn about the organization of judicial proceedings, study the interaction between participants, and assess the importance of professional ethics and responsibility in the administration of justice. Special attention was given to the quality of justice, the principles of fair trial, and the court’s crucial role in strengthening the rule of law.

Such training sessions contribute to the development of analytical thinking, professional culture, legal analysis skills, and a deep understanding of judicial practice among future specialists. According to the organizers, practical sessions in courts allow students to witness the real functioning of the justice system and enhance their motivation to serve the interests of society and the state.

The Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics of al-Farabi Kazakh National University will continue to promote practice-oriented learning in line with the principles of SDG 4, striving to prepare competent, responsible, and highly qualified legal professionals capable of making a meaningful contribution to the development of the national legal system.
