Students Learn Safety Rules for Floods and Landslides
With the approach of the season of heavy precipitation and snowmelt, emergency services are reminding the public about the importance of following safety rules during floods and landslides. As part of educational and outreach activities, a special seminar was organized for 3rd-year students of the Meteorology program.
During the session, future atmospheric process specialists received practical recommendations for preparing for extreme climate situations, including assembling an “emergency backpack,” assessing hazardous areas, and knowing the proper actions during floods and landslides. The lecture was delivered by senior lecturer of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Gulnara Orakova, who emphasized the importance of timely preparation and informing the public.
“Students should not only study theory but also be able to apply their knowledge in practice, so they are ready to help themselves and others in emergency situations,” noted G.O. Orakova.
Experts remind that in case of flood or landslide threats, it is crucial to follow official recommendations, not ignore warning signals from nature, and contact emergency services at 112. The initiative is directly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 13 “Climate Action” and is regarded as a practical contribution of the academic community to addressing contemporary climate challenges.
