GovTech and SDGs: A Student Scientific Discussion on the Development of Digital Public Governance
Within the framework of implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDG 8 (enhancing economic efficiency), SDG 9 (developing innovation and digital infrastructure), and SDG 17 (strengthening partnerships between the state, business, and society), a meeting of the student scientific club was held under the supervision of G.T. Esengeldiyeva and E.M. Zholamanov, with the participation of advisor G.K. Ilyashova.
A presentation was delivered by Nuraі Baybusinova, a 4th-year student of the “Digital Economy” program, who provided a structured overview of key GovTech initiatives, examples of digital services, and their impact on the efficiency of public administration, transparency, and citizen engagement. She emphasized the role of the “smart government” concept, which includes process automation, the use of big data, and the development of electronic public service platforms.
The meeting was attended by 1st- and 4th-year students majoring in “Digital Economy.” The discussion focused on the practical application of digital technologies in public administration, their advantages and risks, as well as their impact on the quality and accessibility of public services.
As a result of the discussion, students concluded that the implementation of GovTech contributes to achieving the SDGs by improving the efficiency of government institutions, reducing bureaucratic barriers, stimulating innovation, and strengthening interaction between the state and society. Such initiatives help create a sustainable, transparent, and citizen-oriented digital environment.
