An International Interuniversity Student Webinar on the SDGs Was Held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Farabi University
On December 24, 2025, an international interuniversity student webinar entitled “The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Theoretical Foundations and Youth Engagement” was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The aim of the event was to deepen theoretical knowledge of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, encourage active youth engagement in sustainable development processes, and promote international student cooperation.
The webinar brought together students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University as well as leading higher education institutions of Japan. In particular, representatives of The University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Sophia University, Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies participated in the online event.
The program addressed the following key issues:

theoretical foundations of sustainable development and the structure and content of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);

the concept of the “three pillars” of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental dimensions;

national approaches and practices for SDG implementation in Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Kazakhstan;
-
the role of youth as key actors in sustainable transformations;
-
opportunities for student engagement in environmental, social, and innovative initiatives;
-
issues related to the development of international student cooperation and academic networks.
A total of 17 students took part in the event, including 6 students from Japan and 11 students from Kazakhstan.
The webinar contributed to strengthening academic ties between universities, fostering global thinking among students, and enhancing the role of youth in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants expanded their knowledge of sustainable development and expressed interest in future joint academic and student initiatives.
