Online survey among students of natural science faculties within the framework of SDG 5 “Gender Equality” “Women in STEM/IT: Students’ Needs”
Within the framework of SDG 5 “Gender Equality”, an online survey titled “Women in STEM/IT: Students’ Needs” was conducted among students of science-oriented faculties. The survey was administered online using Google Forms and involved 81 respondents, including university students and external participants. The main objective of the study was to identify programs and seminars that influence students’ choice of STEM/IT majors.
The results indicate a nearly balanced gender distribution, with 51.9% male and 48.1% female respondents. Most participants are undergraduate students, while the proportions of master’s and doctoral students are relatively small. The majority of respondents study in the field of information security, and a significant number are senior students, suggesting that interest in STEM/IT develops progressively during the course of study.
Social media and online platforms, family support, and school subjects such as informatics and mathematics were identified as the key factors influencing the choice of STEM/IT fields. For almost half of the respondents, interest in STEM/IT emerged during school years, while for many others it developed after entering university. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of early career guidance and targeted initiatives aimed at increasing the participation of women in STEM/IT disciplines.
