Professor Oday Ibraheem Abdullah Begins His Visit at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
The Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has welcomed Professor Oday Ibraheem Abdullah, a distinguished scholar from the University of Baghdad, where he has served at the College of Engineering and the Department of Energy Engineering since 2003.
From November 25 to December 25, 2025, Professor Abdullah is visiting KazNU under the state program “Invited Foreign Scientists”, funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. His visit contributes to strengthening international scientific cooperation and supports the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 (Quality Education), No. 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Throughout the month, Professor Abdullah is conducting joint research with colleagues from the Department of Mechanics and delivering lectures and seminars for master’s students, PhD candidates, and young researchers.
Professor Oday Ibraheem Abdullah is a recognized expert in computational mechanics, the finite element method, tribology, wind energy, and energy system modeling. He earned his bachelor’s (2000) and master’s (2003) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Baghdad and completed his PhD at Hamburg University of Technology in 2015.
His impressive academic record includes over 240 scientific publications, more than 1,800 citations, and an h-index of 23. He serves as a reviewer for more than 60 international journals and is a member of editorial boards of leading scientific journals such as Symmetry, Cogent Engineering, and Mathematical Modelling of Engineering Problems.
In addition to his research activities, Professor Abdullah has extensive teaching experience in machine design, vibrations, MATLAB programming, the finite element method, wind energy, and complex systems modeling. He has contributed to the development of bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs in Iraq and Kazakhstan.
A recipient of DAAD scholarships and a participant in major engineering and scientific projects in Iraq and Germany, Professor Abdullah’s visit to KazNU strengthens international academic collaboration and promotes knowledge exchange in engineering and applied sciences.
