SDG 15. Event on the topic: “Me and the Environment”
An event on the topic “Me and the Environment” was held at the Department of Pre-University Training of the Faculty of Pre-University Education. The purpose of the event was to identify the causes of modern environmental problems and their negative impact on humanity, as well as to develop understanding and values related to environmental protection.
Environmental protection is one of the most pressing issues today. The development of human consciousness has made the use of natural resources more complex. At present, humanity uses the environment irrationally, which leads to a disruption of ecological balance.
Many regions have turned into zones of environmental disaster. Approximately 45–50 percent of the world’s population lives in environmentally unfavorable areas.
During the event, participants became acquainted with global environmental issues. It was emphasized that these problems begin with the irrational use of the environment by each individual. Therefore, the protection and preservation of nature start with a person’s attitude toward the surrounding environment.
The participants also learned about the environmental situation in the city of Almaty. Almaty is included in the list of the most polluted cities. The city is mainly polluted by vehicle exhaust emissions, emissions from heat and power plants (CHPs), and household waste. This leads to the emergence of various diseases among the population. In addition, the chaotic construction of high-rise residential buildings hinders the natural ventilation of the city. The participants shared their opinions on these issues, identified ways to improve the environmental situation, considered preventive measures, and presented their own short video presentations on the topic.
