Open Seminar «Sustainable Development and Science: The Role of Libraries through Scholarly Publications»
On January 11, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a practice-oriented seminar titled «Scholarly Publication as the Library’s Contribution to Sustainable Development: Where to Begin», which brought together staff members of the National Library.
The seminar was conducted by Assoc. Prof. Kalima Tuyenbayeva, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, academician of IIA, and lecturer at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, with the active support of the Department of World History, Historiography, and Source Studies, which maintains strong collaboration with the library community in the areas of scholarly communication, source studies, and sustainable development.
The aim of the seminar was to introduce participants to the structure and requirements of academic articles (IMRaD format), explain the differences between types of publications (peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, abstracts), and to train them in the use of international author identifiers such as ORCID and DOI.
Special attention was paid to aligning library-based scholarly activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants were provided with methodological guides, templates, and practical recommendations for drafting their own articles.
Importantly, the event did not remain purely theoretical. Participants identified relevant topics and began drafting concepts for their own scholarly articles, focusing on library practices, sustainable development, digital transformation, and legal literacy. The discussion evolved into concrete steps — participants committed to developing their work into full publications in the near future.
Further joint work on article drafts, consultations, and continuous support is planned to ensure successful publication outcomes. This initiative is expected to make a significant contribution to the professional development of the library community.
Stay tuned for updates — and we invite you to join our next seminar!
