Farewell Evening for a Japanese Student Held at the Department of Japanese Studies
A farewell evening dedicated to the completion of studies by Japanese student Sato Toshinari san was held at the Department of Japanese Studies. The event was initiated and organized by faculty students and took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere of intercultural exchange.
The program included various activities such as Japanese calligraphy sessions, language games, and interactive language exchange practices. Many kind words of appreciation were expressed during the evening, along with sincere intentions to continue academic and cultural cooperation. Mr. Sato also expressed his desire to return to Kazakhstan in the future.
It is worth noting that Sato san had previously studied at KazNU in 2024 but was forced to interrupt his studies due to health issues and return to Japan. In the current academic year, he decided to come back to Kazakhstan to continue his studies with a focus on learning the Russian language.
According to the student, he was particularly impressed by the openness, energy, and friendliness of the people, as well as the lively interpersonal communication. During his stay in Kazakhstan, he studied the Russian language, Japanese calligraphy (shodō), traditional dance, shogi, and elements of contemporary Japanese culture. His interest in the Russian language was shaped by his three-year stay in Singapore and his desire to gain a deeper understanding of the culture of Russian-speaking countries. He also expressed a strong interest in building friendships with both Russian-speaking and Kazakh students.
Among the challenges of adaptation, Mr. Sato mentioned language barriers, especially when interacting with administrative institutions, as well as certain environmental aspects of living in a large city. Nevertheless, he described these challenges as a valuable intercultural experience.
Sato san particularly enjoyed Kazakh cuisine, including both traditional dishes and modern interpretations of national fast food. He sincerely expressed his intention to visit Kazakhstan again.
In the future, Sato san plans to pursue a professional career related to the Russian language and is considering employment in Japanese companies, including those operating in the mineral resource extraction sector.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues to strengthen international cooperation and create favorable conditions for academic mobility and intercultural dialogue.
