“Sorting information and avoiding fake news”

On January 28, 2026 at the Faculty of Philology, the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation studies held an open educational hour dedicated to the topic: “Sorting information and avoiding fake news”.

The event was organized by first-year doctoral student in the specialty Foreign Philology Aluakas Z.E. and the group advisor Aimagambetova M.M. The session was attended by the first-year students of the “6B02304-Translation Studies” program.

 The purpose of the session was to teach participants how to navigate the information space correctly and protect themselves from misleading or false data.

The session was conducted in an interactive format and was attended by 15 students. During the lesson, the key characteristics of contemporary fake news were discussed, along with the methods and purposes of their dissemination. In the practical part, examples of news items from various platforms were analyzed. Students practiced assessing the credibility of information, verifying sources, and providing well-reasoned arguments to support their conclusions. The students demonstrated a high level of engagement and concluded that working with information requires responsibility and caution. The session fully achieved its objectives.
