A Round Table Discussion on the Draft of the New Constitution Was Held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology
A round table discussion dedicated to the draft of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Gulmira Sharifovna Yar-Mukhammedova, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Solid State Physics and New Materials Technology.
During the event, participants discussed the key provisions of the draft Constitution presented for public consideration, as well as its significance for the further development of the country’s legal system and democratic institutions.
In the draft of the new Constitution, education is regarded not only as a social guarantee but also as a strategic resource for national development. Greater emphasis is placed on the role of universities as centres of scientific expertise, public dialogue, and the formation of civic responsibility. Science is accorded a more pronounced status as the foundation of innovative and technological progress, while academic freedom and the protection of intellectual property are established as essential principles.
Particular attention was paid to the role of the academic community as a platform for open and constructive discussion of socially significant initiatives, as well as to the contribution of higher education institutions to fostering civic responsibility and legal awareness among young people. The proposed amendments to the Constitution are aimed at enhancing the quality of education, developing the research environment, and integrating science into the country’s sustainable development agenda. In this context, universities are positioned as key institutions of civil society.
The discussion of the draft Constitution within the university setting became an important element in engaging the academic and educational community in the country’s socio-political development processes.
