On 5 February 2026, a ceremonial opening of lecture halls, a teaching laboratory, and a student co-working space was held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in honor of the 90th anniversary of Professor Kenes Bolatkulovich Zhumanov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

The event was organized within the framework of the development of the Faculty’s educational and research infrastructure and aimed at creating a modern, open, and comfortable academic environment for learning, research, and project-based activities of students and early-career researchers. The implementation of the project contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4 “Quality Education” (development of modern educational infrastructure and expanded access to high-quality educational resources) and SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (development of the University’s scientific, technological, and innovation infrastructure).
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the University leadership, faculty members, students, and invited guests. A welcoming address was delivered by M. K. Ibraimov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of KazNU, who emphasized Professor K. B. Zhumanov’s significant contribution to the development of physics and engineering education and scientific schools of the University, as well as the importance of systematic modernization of the Faculty’s educational and laboratory facilities.
As part of the event, a symbolic opening of the renovated academic spaces, including lecture halls and a student co-working area, was held. The Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, N. A. Beissen, presented the functional capabilities of the new facilities and highlighted their role in promoting project-based learning, interdisciplinary research, and student initiatives.
Congratulatory remarks were also delivered by representatives of the academic community, invited guests, and alumni of the Faculty. Particular attention was paid to the continuity of the Faculty’s scientific traditions and the role of distinguished scholars in shaping the modern academic and research environment of KazNU.

The organization of this event and the commissioning of new educational and co-working spaces form part of KazNU’s consistent efforts to modernize its educational infrastructure, expand practice-oriented learning opportunities, and create conditions for training competitive specialists in physics, engineering, and high technologies in line with the priorities of sustainable development.
