A Meaningful Meeting on the U.S. University System Held at KazNU
A guest lecture and discussion titled “The Model of Higher Education in Kazakhstan and the Advantages of the U.S. University System” was organized for second-year students of Kazakh Philology at the Faculty of Philology, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The guest speaker was Erol Alğan Erol, a young professional from the state of Indiana, USA, and a polyglot fluent in six languages. The meeting was held in an open and informal format, fostering an engaging and productive exchange of ideas between students and the speaker.
During the session, the structural features of the higher education systems in Kazakhstan and the United States were discussed, including academic freedom, opportunities for building individual learning trajectories, the elective course system, research culture, and the principles of academic integrity. Drawing on his personal experience, the speaker provided a comparative overview of the advantages of the U.S. higher education model.
Erol Alğan learned Kazakh within two years and has achieved a C1 level according to the KAZTEST system. He noted that he reads Abai’s works in the original in his free time. This greatly impressed the students and served as a vivid example of purposeful and systematic language learning.
The discussion also addressed academic mobility programs, opportunities to study abroad, and the impact of international experience on professional development. Such events contribute to enhancing students’ motivation and expanding their understanding of opportunities within the global educational space.
At the end of the meeting, students performed songs accompanied by guitar and presented traditional Kazakh songs, bringing the event to a warm and culturally enriching conclusion.
The event was organized by N. Yegizbayeva and Zh. Sarsenbay, lecturers of the A. Baitursynuly Department of Kazakh Linguistics.
