The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University recently held an educational seminar for first-year "Biomedicine" students as part of the university's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
On February 19, 2026, students gathered for a session titled "Food Security and Eco-Friendly Products: A Perspective Through the Lens of Biomedicine."
The seminar moved beyond traditional agronomic and economic perspectives, focusing instead on the modern "One Health" concept. This integrated approach emphasizes that human health is inextricably linked to the health of animals and the shared environment.

Key Highlights of the Seminar:
Participants explored how food security is not merely a fight against hunger, but a fundamental pillar for strengthening national health. By ensuring access to high-quality nutrition, society can significantly improve the quality of life for future generations.
The event featured guest speaker Gulzhikhan Amangeldievna Arystanova, Candidate of Biological Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University.
Expert Discussion Points:
· The direct correlation between food quality and the human microbiome.
· How eco-friendly products contribute to building a robust immune system.
· The critical role of nutrition in preventing non-communicable diseases (such as obesity, diabetes, and oncology).
The seminar was highly interactive. Students actively engaged with the presentation, participated in Q&A sessions, and applied their knowledge to solve practical case studies.
Associate Professor of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience, Curator-Adviser Bassygaraev Zh.M.
