First-year students of the Faculty of Philology, Department of Russian Philology and World Literature at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, together with their lecturer Mereke Sabyrzhanovna, held a seminar entitled “Clean Kazakhstan: A Foreign Student’s View on Cleanliness and Order in Almaty.”
During the meeting, international students shared their impressions of the city and spoke about how they perceive the level of cleanliness of streets, public spaces, and university buildings. The students highlighted the well-developed landscaping system, the large number of parks and green areas, as well as citizens’ responsible attitude toward environmental protection.
Special attention was paid to issues of environmental culture, including waste separation, careful treatment of public spaces, and the personal responsibility of each resident for maintaining order in the city. Participants discussed the differences in environmental habits between Kazakhstan and their home countries.
At the end of the seminar, the students concluded that maintaining cleanliness is not only the responsibility of municipal services but also an indicator of a society’s overall culture. The meeting was held in the format of an open dialogue and contributed to the development of intercultural understanding.
