Students from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology Participated in the International CLUVEX Course
Students and master’s students from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology took part in the international online course CLUVEX (Climate University for Virtual Exchanges), organized by the University of Helsinki. The course focused on pressing climate challenges and sustainable water resource management (SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation), providing participants with knowledge from multiple disciplinary perspectives, including natural sciences, social sciences, and the arts. During the program, students analyzed temperature and precipitation data, explored the impact of climate change on water availability, and studied modern technological solutions such as water desalination, smart irrigation systems, and water recycling. Special attention was given to sustainable urban planning, ecological initiatives, and examples of “green” cities, directly linked to SDG 13 Climate Action and SDG 14 Life Below Water and the sustainable use of aquatic resources.
The course included work in small international groups of up to 10 students with a moderator, as well as the practical Climate Horizon exercise, which allowed participants to actively discuss and apply their knowledge in an international context. According to the students, the course was engaging, practical, and provided opportunities for active participation and collaboration.
By the end of the course, participants concluded that climate change affects regions differently, and addressing water-related challenges requires a comprehensive approach combining technology, sustainable planning, and international cooperation.
All students successfully completed the course and received official certificates confirming their participation in the international educational program.
