SDG-13: «Clean Faculty» Challenge Organized
An environmental campaign titled «Clean Faculty» was organized and successfully held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Third-year students of the educational program 6B05304 – «Physics» actively participated in the event. This initiative was aimed at promoting the principles of one of the Sustainable Development Goals – «Quality Education», as well as fostering modern knowledge, strengthening social responsibility, and developing environmental awareness among young people.
The campaign was designed to ensure that students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop a sense of responsibility toward society and the environment. As global environmental challenges continue to grow, such initiatives play an important role in shaping a respectful and responsible attitude toward nature among the younger generation. Therefore, this initiative carried out within the university environment contributed to increasing students’ civic engagement and encouraging a conscious approach to environmental issues.
The organizer of the event and the group curator, Professor Farida Beksultanovna Belisarova, emphasized the importance of such environmental initiatives in her speech. According to her, a university is not only a place for obtaining quality education but also an important platform for shaping young people’s active civic position and nurturing individuals who feel responsible for the future of society and the planet. She noted that the active participation of students demonstrates their concern for environmental protection and their willingness to contribute to preserving nature.
The main goal of the event was to expand students’ knowledge of sustainable development principles, develop ecological thinking, and form practical skills related to environmental protection. During the campaign, participants were introduced to various aspects of sustainable development and discussed the role of education and science in shaping environmental culture.
In addition, the participants explored other important areas of sustainable development. In particular, issues such as the development of clean and affordable energy sources, the formation of sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and measures to combat climate change were widely discussed. The discussions were held in an open and interactive dialogue format, where students shared their opinions, suggestions, and new ideas on improving the environmental situation both at the university and in the city.
The practical part of the campaign continued with a cleanup of the faculty territory. Students actively participated in the environmental cleanup activities, contributing to maintaining cleanliness and improving the surrounding environment of the educational building. During the activity, they emphasized that a clean and well-maintained educational environment is an important component of a comfortable and effective learning process. Participants also discussed environmental responsibility, proper waste sorting, efficient use of natural resources, and ways to reduce negative impacts on the environment.
During the event, special attention was given to the importance of developing sustainable and environmentally responsible habits in students’ daily lives. Participants noted that even simple actions – such as maintaining cleanliness, reducing unnecessary resource consumption, minimizing waste, and protecting nature – can make a significant contribution to environmental preservation. Students emphasized that the combination of such small steps helps maintain ecological sustainability and allows future generations to inherit a clean and healthy natural environment.
