SDG-13: Scientific and Educational Event «Current Environmental Issues»
On March 2, 2026, third-year students from Kazakh groups at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized and conducted a scientific and educational event titled «Current Environmental Issues». The event was supervised by G. Doktyrbay.
During the event, participants engaged in a detailed discussion of contemporary global environmental challenges. Students examined critical issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, and the sustainable use of natural resources. Particular attention was given to the role of biotechnology, the importance of green technologies, and the impact of scientific innovations on achieving sustainable development.
Students actively expressed their opinions and posed scientific questions. The discussion, held in an open-dialogue format, promoted the development of environmental responsibility, stimulated scientific curiosity, and fostered a conscious attitude toward environmental protection. Participants shared the results of their research and introduced new ideas, discussing the implementation of green technologies, methods for nature conservation, and strategies for the efficient use of resources.
The event also addressed the role of environmental journalism, scientific research, and practical initiatives. Students discussed the key societal functions of environmental information – educational, monitoring, and informational – demonstrating how such information contributes to the development of modern ecological thinking and encourages active participation in environmental protection.
Overall, this event represented an important step in fostering environmentally conscious youth, promoting the principles of sustainable development, and developing practical skills for environmental stewardship. Students not only deepened their understanding of contemporary environmental challenges but also strengthened their ability to substantiate and defend their scientific positions. Initiatives like this help cultivate a responsible and proactive generation, prepared to address ecological challenges in both their future professional careers and civic life.
