16 march, 2026

In Almaty, as part of the Nauryznama Decade and in celebration of March 16 – the Day of Culture and National Traditions, the international festival and scientific-practical conference “Nomadic Art: Global Image of Steppe Culture” was held for the first time.

The program included the scientific-practical conference “National Heritage – A Legacy for Generations: Synergy of Museum Artifacts and Ethno-Design”, a fashion show of ethnocollections by domestic and international designers, an international exhibition of decorative and applied arts, and master classes on ancient craft techniques.

The project aimed to promote nomadic culture, develop contemporary ethno-design, and strengthen international creative collaboration. The festival brought together museum heritage, craftsmanship, fashion, and modern creative industries.

Special attention was given to the cities of Taraz, Turkestan, and Almaty, which are part of the World Craft Cities network. Guests were also presented with ethnographic exhibitions, contemporary art installations, and interactive workshops on felting, ceramics, jewelry making, and bone crafting.

A highlight of the festival was the fashion show featuring students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). The students demonstrated initiative, responded promptly to the invitation to participate, and became one of the most memorable parts of the festival program, attracting the attention of guests and experts. Their participation contributed to the development of professional skills, creative potential, and the preservation of national cultural traditions.

The festival also hosted B2B meetings with experts from the World Craft Council, resulting in strategic agreements aimed at promoting Central Asian artisans to international markets.
