Open lesson-seminar on the subject "The Teachings of Abai" at KazNU

19 march, 2026

An educational and interactive open lesson on "The Teachings of Abai" was held at the Abai Research Institute at Al-Farabi KazNU. The instructor was Laila Musaly, Associate Professor at the Abai Research Institute at KazNU. The lesson's topic was "The Sources and Prerequisites of Abai's Teachings." The goal of the open lesson, dedicated to the spiritual legacy of the great Kazakh thinker Abai Kunanbayev, was to reveal the cultural and spiritual traditions that influenced the poet and philosopher's worldview.

The lesson was held in the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at KazNU.

First-year students majoring in "Computational Sciences and Statistics" analyzed the primary sources of Abai's teachings: Kazakh folk culture, oral folklore, steppe wisdom traditions, akyns' poetry, and the legacy of the biys. The "Applied Mathematics" major explored the role of Eastern classical literature: Abai's consonance with the works of great Eastern thinkers and poets such as Ferdowsi, Nizami, Navoi, and others. Students majoring in "Mathematics" explored the influence of Russian and European culture and translations of Abai. The seminar's unusual format allowed students to delve deeper into the material and present it in an engaging, creative manner.

The second part of the seminar was organized as a roundtable discussion on the topic of the lesson. A fascinating and unusual part of the open lesson included role-playing games with famous characters chosen by students, including Aliya Moldagulova, Yeldos Smetov, Leonid Yakubovich, and others. Each participant improvised their role, discussing the significance of Abai's ideas, morality, education, and cultural values. This format made the discussion lively, interesting, and even a little humorous, helping the students engage more deeply in the dialogue.

The event was more than just a class, but a truly cultural and educational gathering, bringing together students from various fields and enabling a deeper understanding of the significance of Abai's work for Kazakh and global culture. Thus, the open lesson on "The Teachings of Abai" at KazNU became a shining example of how education can be combined with creativity, culture, and a lively discussion of the great thinker's ideas.
