Open Lecture on “Cities of Ancient Rome”

This event was organized on the basis of Sustainable Development Goal 4 – ensuring quality education.

At the Faculty of History of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, within the framework of pedagogical practice, first-year PhD student of the Archaeology program of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnology, Kamchat Auelkhanovna Adilova, delivered an open lecture for second-year students of the “Archaeology” educational program on the subject Ancient Archaeology, titled “Cities of Ancient Rome”.

The purpose of the lecture was to explain the formation, structure, and historical significance of cities in Roman civilization, as well as to analyze the works of archaeologists who studied the history of Roman cities.

During the lecture, it was noted that the development of the Roman Empire was closely connected with the growth of cities, and the main periods of Roman history were reviewed. The planning of Roman cities and the functions of public buildings such as the forum, temple, amphitheater, thermae, and aqueducts were explained.

The cities of Rome, Pompeii, Ostia, Timgad, and Herculaneum were discussed as examples, and their importance for archaeological science was shown. The achievements of Roman architecture and the role of archaeological research in the study of ancient civilization were also highlighted.

In conclusion, it was emphasized that the cities of Ancient Rome were the foundation of the empire, and their historical and cultural heritage remains important to this day. The open lecture was conducted at a high academic and methodological level.
