27 march, 2026

On March 27, 2026, Zhang Xiang, a 1st-year doctoral student in Translation Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, within the framework of the SDG-17 “Partnership for Sustainable Development” organized an educational round table meeting titled “Youth Financial Literacy: Managing Personal Budgets and Preventing Fraud” for 3rd-year students majoring in Foreign Philology. The event was held under the supervision of Nagiyatova Lyazzat Bermakhanovna, senior lecturer of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies, and with the participation of senior lecturer Bekturova Elmira Kalmahanbetovna.

The invited guest speaker was Ms. Ainur Korganbekova, Head of the Personal Service Center (PSC No.12) of the Almaty City Branch of Halyk Bank, along with Ms. Ateeva Ayazhan, Senior Manager of Halyk Bank. The speakers shared professional insights into financial management and fraud prevention based on real-life cases and practical experience.

The main purpose of the event was to enhance students’ financial literacy, raise awareness of personal budget management, and develop critical thinking skills in recognizing and preventing financial fraud. Considering that most participants were non-finance majors, the lecture was designed to be practical, accessible, and closely related to students’ everyday lives.

The event began with an introduction to the topic and its relevance to young people. The speakers then explained key concepts of personal budgeting, including how to manage income and expenses, distinguish between needs and wants, and develop responsible financial habits. A significant part of the lecture focused on common fraud schemes in Kazakhstan, such as fake bank calls, phishing messages, suspicious payment links, and online shopping scams. Students were provided with clear guidelines on how to identify risks and protect their personal and financial information.

To increase engagement, the session included live discussions. Students were encouraged to share their experiences, analyze real-life situations, and discuss appropriate responses to potential fraud scenarios. This interactive format helped deepen their understanding and made the learning process more dynamic.

At the end of the meeting, a short Q&A session was held, during which students actively asked questions about banking services, financial safety, and everyday money management. The speakers provided practical advice and emphasized the importance of cautious decision-making in financial matters.

The event was held in a warm and active atmosphere. Students showed great interest in the topic and noted the practical importance of the knowledge they gained.
