A Student Dean has been elected at the Faculty of Physics and Technology. As part of the development of student self-governance, an important decision was made at the faculty. Following the results of the student vote, Zhaksylyk Adilet, a second-year student of the educational program 6B05307 “Nuclear Physics,” was officially elected as Student Dean. This event marks the beginning of a new stage aimed at coordinating students’ academic, research, and social life, as well as strengthening interaction between students and the faculty administration.

The Student Dean serves as a responsible representative who ensures effective communication between students and the faculty administration, protects students’ interests, and supports their initiatives. This role contributes to fostering a culture of engagement, responsibility, and mutual respect, while also creating opportunities for students to express their ideas and actively participate in decision-making processes.

The main responsibilities of the Student Dean include establishing open and continuous communication between students and the faculty administration, protecting students’ rights and academic interests, and developing proposals to improve the quality of education. In addition, the Student Dean organizes and supports scientific, cultural, and social projects, coordinates the activities of student organizations, and promotes the development of leadership skills among students. This position also requires the ability to carefully listen to students’ concerns and propose practical solutions for the benefit of the entire academic community.

The expected outcomes of this initiative include increased student engagement in faculty life and the creation of an environment based on openness, trust, and mutual respect. It is also anticipated that academic performance will improve and research activity will grow, as students become more motivated and receive the necessary support. Furthermore, the initiative aims to strengthen responsibility and proactiveness among students, encouraging them to actively contribute to the development of the faculty.

Another important aspect of this role is fostering interaction among diverse student groups, ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunities for participation. The Student Dean may also initiate mentoring programs in which senior students assist junior students in adapting to university life and achieving academic success. Such measures can significantly enhance the overall student experience and contribute to building a more cohesive academic community.

The institution of the Student Dean is not merely a governance mechanism, but an important platform for implementing students’ ideas and initiatives. It provides students with the opportunity to actively participate in shaping the educational environment and prepares them for future leadership roles. All students are encouraged to actively engage in faculty life, share their perspectives, and contribute to its development.

This initiative is particularly significant in the context of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It directly contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing the quality of education and increasing student engagement. It also supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by fostering an inclusive environment and ensuring equal opportunities for all students. Furthermore, by strengthening student self-governance, the initiative advances SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through promoting transparency, participation, and trust within the academic community. Finally, by enhancing collaboration between students and administration, it contributes to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Thus, the introduction of the Student Dean institution represents a strategically important step toward developing an active, responsible, and engaged student community capable of making a meaningful contribution to the sustainable development of the university and society as a whole.
