SPECIAL VIDEO ISSUES: WORLD EXPERTS ABOUT COVID-19 "COVID-19 and pediatric patient: thinking about vulnerable kids"

3 may, 2020

A video conference on “Covid-19 and pediatric patient: thinking about vulnerable kids” will be held on April 30, 2020 at 7:00 - 8:00 PM (Nur-Sultan time)
In Kazakhstan, same as elsewhere in the world, there is an ongoing discussion until which time to keep the schools closed. It is often stated that kids are not susceptible to COVID-19. The newest evidence, however, suggests that children may contract the novel coronavirus infection and develop a clinical disease. Their clinical disease often ensues with a different symptomatic than in adult patients. Frequently, children do not develop clear disease manifestations, while remaining contagious. There are also concerns for children potentially vulnerable to the novel coronavirus infection, such as those after a solid organ transplant or with pre-existing respiratory disease. Careful weighing of the risks for these vulnerable pediatric populations should aid making a rational decision on school opening and our actions thereafter.
Our invited guest will be a world renowned pediatric respirologist and expert in genetic and rare diseases of the lung, Director of Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine (Montreal Childre's Hospital), Director of Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Director of Neuromuscular Clinic, Attending Physician of Transplant Clinic, Chair of Canadian Thoracic Society Research Committee, Professor of McGill University (Montreal, Canada) Larry C. Lands.
We will first discuss the newest evidence on COVID-19 and labile pediatric bronchial asthma, virus-exacerbated bronchial asthma, sickle cell anemia, neuromuscular disorders (Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy), and other chronic diseases (Type 1 diabetes, immunosuppression, etc). We will then learn from Prof. Lands what preparations his Hospital and Clinics have been making for COVID-19.
