Al-Farabi Library of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a meeting of prominent Kazakh historian, political scientist, orientalist and director of the “Institute of Asian Studies” Akimbekov Sultan Magrupovich with students, and the teaching staff of the Faculty of History.

This event was timed to the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting was solemnly opened by the Dean of the Faculty of History Nogaibayeva Mendigul Sagatovna. The moderator was the head of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies Zhumatai Gabit Bekenovich. During the meeting, Sultan Magrupovich gave a lecture on the topic: “The political situation in Afghanistan after the return of the Taliban to power”.

During the lecture, Sultan Magrupovich gave the participants an analysis of the internal and external situation of Afghanistan in the context of current political problems in Central Asia, as well as assessed individual historical events and shared his forecast for the future development of Afghanistan. The lecturer, answering the questions of the students and the teaching staff who attended the lecture as listeners, the lecture was held in an atmosphere of interesting discussion. In addition, the event was attended by many interested people as well as in an online format through the Zoom platform. At the end of the lecture, Sultan Magrupovich answered the questions of students and teachers. This meeting was very productive, informative, interesting and was held at a very high level. Students, master and doctoral students studying of the specialty “History” received answers to many important questions concerning the history of Afghanistan and the current state of the country, and also had the opportunity to further expand their intellectual horizons.

In addition, at the end of the lecture, Sultan Magrupovich acquainted everyone with his book “History of Afghanistan” published in Russian, Kazakh and English languages, and also presented his works to students and the university. Dean of the Faculty Mendigul Sagatovna, in turn, expressed gratitude to Sultan Magrupovich and presented the al-Farabi carpet on behalf of the university. Within the framework of this event, fundamental works and articles of Sultan Magrupovich were exhibited, which were presented to the public. Along with the scientist's researches, works on the history of Afghanistan, published in Russian and Dari languages, were presented.
