The global pandemic has made some adjustments to our way of life. This has created a need for videoconferencing services for all sectors of the economy. According to statistics, daily videoconferencing traffic in 2020 has grown by 535 percent. Nowadays, videoconferencing has become not just a novelty in the field of IT, but an important business tool. In this regard, KazNU IT specialists developed Jinalys Room web application based on Al-Farabi open-source data.
"Jinalys Room" is a Kazakhstani video conferencing service with the functions of a storage system for conferences, meetings, reports and records online. It supports various API services for online learning, messaging, and integration with corporate information systems. The main goal is to provide online training without installing additional software. It is also possible to install it in the university's server infrastructure. This ensures data security and localization of video traffic. The specialists of the Center for Analysis and Processing of Data of the University point out that this project was caused by the public need.
- When the world pandemic broke out, all enterprises switched over to online work. At this point we saw that organizational activities in business, teaching classes need a platform for online conferencing. As the load on foreign Internet traffic was increasing, the use of services such as zoom created certain difficulties, problems. Therefore, there was a need for a system that is located on a Kazakh server. We came up with the idea that it should not only play the role of video conferencing, but also include the functions of a training system like jinalys. Currently jinalys room is integrated with the corporate system of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi and the univer system," says Chingiz Rabat, system administrator of the Center for Analysis and Data Processing of KazNU.
Any employee at an educational institution can sign up for the platform through his or her account, he said. According to a Digital in the Round survey, 98% of respondents believe that working via remote video conferencing will lead to increased productivity.
- Now our plan is to create a single ecosystem in Jinalys Room with other LMS (learning management system), such as Platonus, Moodles, Kundelik. For example, we have an idea to create the possibility that you can go directly from Kundelik to jinalys room. And all the data is collected in one place. The user can view the video in the jinalys room by clicking on the link in the system," explains Chingiz Rabat. - This project will be in demand. We can prove it with the following data. For example, last year the value of the global video conferencing market reached 7.87 billion dollars. And in 2019, it was 3.85 billion dollars. It is planned that this year this figure will be at $6.03 billion. According to the video conferencing statistics for 2021, the average annual growth rate for the market from 2020 to 2026 will be 11.45%. According to some forecasts, by 2026, this market could exceed $9 billion.
The specialists of the center noted that the advantage of Jinalys Room is localization. Since all servers are located in Kazakhstan.
- Zoom is a foreign server, respectively, communication is also established through foreign traffic. Since in our case we use local servers, there will be no overload. We plan that there will be a separate server in each city. This contributes to the rapid exchange of data, reduction of costs and establishment of a stable connection," says Jeksenbeyuly Chingiz.
According to him, IT-specialists are still improving the project.
- For example, now software developers are working on connecting the survey module. Through it any organizer or teacher can enter the online cabinet and conduct a survey, like in Google Forms. An organizer during an online conference can take a survey and see timely results. You can also take a survey, do a mini-test, get employee opinions, and vote among the staff. In short, you can make a survey depending on your needs. The user himself chooses the time, right or wrong answers, - said Chingiz Rabat.
Jinalys Room is integrated with the univer system, so online rooms are created based on the class schedule. At the same time, the teacher does not create separate sections on each lesson. If you register in the univer system, you will immediately have classes open based on your schedule. Just as you choose an audience, you choose a class topic and attend it. According to the engineer-analyst of the Center of the analysis and data processing of KazNU Madiyar Tasbulatov, here it is possible to create a closed room. That is, you can select people from the list of users and add only those people to the room.
- Jinalys Room open source is created on the basis of the data. In the pilot mode, we held meetings in the rectorate via Jinalys Room. We had 170 people participate in the meeting at one time. In addition, for several weeks we had students take classes online through Jinalys Room. As a result, we conducted a survey among the participants. Participants who had used the platform gave positive feedback and suggestions. In the future all this will be taken into account," says Madiyar Daniyarovich.
According to him, another advantage of the Jinalys Room is that you do't download or install anything, but you can simply connect through any device if you have a browser. Foreign publications also write about the difficulties of communication during a video conference. For example, you can say that video is a waste of time. If the technical settings are complicated and incomprehensible to the user, 30% of the time allocated for the meeting will be wasted. Therefore the project prepared by experts of KazNU offers rational solutions for many business structures or public institutions. Also it is necessary to consider that such video conferences save time and money. Because about half of users can reduce business trips, using options of video calls. Digital in the Round pointed this out in its expertise. And a 2019 Doodle report shows that more than $399 billion is lost each year due to poor meetings.
The Jinalys Room project has now been issued an official document of authorship by the state. You can join the jinalysroom.kz information system by going to the website.
