In August 2023, the staff of Space technologies and remote sensing center and the teaching staff of the Departments of Cartography and Geoinformatics and Geography, Land Management and Cadastre of Al-Farabi KazNU went on a business trip (field expedition) to the southern region of Kazakhstan in the direction of "Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems" of the "Sustainable Development Goals" project program.

Field expedition-took place in June, July. Covered areas: Zhambyl region, Turkestan region, Almaty region, Zhetysu region, Kyzylorda region. Founding of the expedition: Implementation of research under the BR18574227 program «Scientific and applied justification management of NAS to prevent desertification processes in southern Kazakhstan, to ensure the SD rural areas». The purpose of the job trips (expedition): conducting field work on the study of the state of natural and agricultural systems of agricultural and pasture use, conducting monitoring observations of desertification processes in key areas; in key areas using a drone to conduct a physical and geographical description, to give a description of soil pits (sections) with sampling. The total number of key sites is 51.

From 22. 06.2023 to 24.07.2023 and 06.08.2023 to 15.08.2023, according to the SRW calendar plan, an expedition trip was conducted to Zhambyl, Turkestan, Almaty, Zhetysu and Kyzylorda regions. During the expedition period, all planned points were surveyed.

In field research, the comparative geographical method and the method of soil keys (sites), which has become a classic, were used. In the study of specific soils, morphological and profile methods were used, which are the basis for conducting field research and form the basis for soil diagnostics. In total, a physical and geographical description and observations were carried out at 13 key points in the Zhambyl region, 14 points in the Turkestan region, 16 points in the Almaty and Zhetysu regions and 8 points in the Kyzylorda region, a total of 51 key points.

During the expedition period, field material was collected: 219 soil samples, video and photographic materials from observation points, herbariums were collected.
