SDG. 17 Partnerships for the goals

On October 26, 2023, the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies held a round table "On the role of Libraries in sustainable development"
of the SDGs – promoting human peace, prosperity and ending human suffering. And the ways in which libraries can collaborate on this have to do with our core values. All libraries, not just academic libraries, provide a number of important services – access to information in various ways, protection of cultural heritage, promotion of universal literacy and access to library information and technology. These are the main goals of the library and they are very closely related to how the UN SDGs contribute to change.

The event is timed to coincide with the United Nations Day and is dedicated to sustainable development issues. The event was attended by students and undergraduates of the specialty "Library and information Systems".
Within the framework of the round table, the participants discussed the Sustainable Development Goals:
What is the role of libraries in sustainable development?
Can libraries play a role in launching and ensuring the success of sustainable development initiatives and projects?
Can libraries be partners of the government in the implementation of the UN Agenda?
The moderators of the round table were Tuenbayeva Kalima Toleubaevna and Asanova Bayan Suleimenova, teachers of the department.
Undergraduates of the 2nd year in the specialty "Library and Information Systems" prepared presentations on the topics "How to create your own brand of sustainable development" and how can students contribute to sustainable development?
Library activity is sustainable: materials that share resources in the community are distributed, and everyone is provided with access to information.
Libraries cooperate internationally in the field of interlibrary exchange to ensure that all countries have access to information. They are a key element of our social infrastructure, contributing to community involvement in social services, which means that they naturally contribute to the achievement of UN goals.
Awareness is the first step to taking action. If you know and understand the problems of the environment, the economy, as well as modern consumption and production models, you can find innovative solutions to problems.
At the end of the event, the participants prepared a step-by-step plan for implementing changes through the prism of sustainable development in library activities, which reveals the possibilities of Libraries in the field of SDGs:
Libraries provide opportunities for everyone.
Libraries give people the opportunity for their own self-development
Libraries offer access to world knowledge
