Scientists of KazNU took part in Tianjin forum

Scientists of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the international forum on innovation and development of bioindustry in the Chinese city of Tianjin.

The work of the forum is aimed at the effective implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum was organized under the sponsorship of the National Innovation Center for Synthetic Biotechnology of Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the International Alliance of Scientific Organizations "Belt and Road" (ANSO) and the Southern Committee for Sustainable Development of Science and Technology (COMSATS).

More than 300 scientists, experts from 20 countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Germany, Denmark, Singapore, Belarus, Pakistan, Iran, etc., were invited to the forum.

Currently, scientists of KazNU with the financial support of the Tianjin SynBio program conduct joint research in the field of bio-agriculture.

At the international forum, Bolathan Zayadan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Biotechnology, made a report on "Promising phototrophic microorganisms and their biotechnological potential for bioproduction". He is a member of the Advisory-Technical Committee of the COMSATS Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology (CCIB). At the opening ceremony of the forum, the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology presented Prof. Bolathan Zayadan with a certificate of appointment as a visiting researcher.

Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology for Research and Innovation and International Cooperation, Associate Professor Asemgul Sadvakasova is a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Joint Center for Manufacturing Biotechnology COMSATS. She participates in a joint project with scientists from Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB CAS) in the field of synthetic microbial fertilizer development and research as a Belt and Road Young Talent Fellow.

Asemgul Sadvakasova made a report on "Potential of phototrophic microorganisms to achieve carbon neutrality and bioproducts production" at the forum.

Director of the Research Center of Medicinal Plants of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Professor of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology Zhanar Zhenis is also a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology COMSATS. Her report was on "Phytochemical and pharmacological studies of plant resources of Kazakhstan".

During the report Zhanar Zhenis introduced the scientific work of the center, said that on the basis of the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University opened production of innovative products based on plant raw materials and released pilot batches of biologically active supplements and herbal teas. Currently the work on state registration of products and declaration of conformity is underway. Also, Prof. Zhanar Zhenis proposed joint scientific work, bilateral training of young specialists and joint development of production of innovative products based on plant raw materials.

The second meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Joint Center for Industrial Biotechnology COMSATS was held within the framework of the forum.

Professor Jinbin Sun, Vice President of the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB CAS), made a report on the results of the two-year work of the CCIB center on innovations in bioproduction.
