KazNU hosted a conference devoted to topical issues of archeology

The Al-Farabi  Kazakh National University hosted an international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the famous scientist-educator, archaeologist, ethnographer Abdesh Tashkenovich Toleubaev on the theme: "Actual problems of modern archaeology, ethnology and museology of Eurasia: new concepts and results".

The conference was attended by famous scientists and academicians, historians, ethnologists, archaeologists, museologists, representatives of state and public organizations, experts, students and relatives of Abdesh Toleubaev.

Opening the event, Sabit Suatai, Vice-Rector for Social Development of Al-Farabi KazNU, noted that today's conference is dedicated to the life and scientific activity of Prof. Abdesh Toleubaev.  "Abdesh Toleubaev was born on November 15, 1953. In 1970 he entered the Faculty of History of KazNU and graduated with honors. He worked at the university from 1979 until the end of his life. Abdesh Tashkenovich became the head of the department of archeology and ethnology and brought up more than one generation of students. He trained many candidates of sciences and doctors of sciences," said Vice-Rector S. Suatai.

At conference also acted Akim of East Kazakhstan region, graduate of historical faculty Yermek Kosherbaev, doctor of historical sciences, professor Bibizia Kalshabaeva, who told about life and creativity of Abdesh Toleubaev, his contribution to science and education.

In an interview with the newspaper "Kazak University" Abdesh Tashkenuly said that "Archaeology is an elite science". And in truth, archaeology is a field that in addition to deep knowledge requires deep intuition, special thinking, a lot of time and finances. Abdesh Toleubaev organized expeditions and scientific trips to Orenburg, Astrakhan, Omsk regions and Altai Krai since 80-90th years. He discovered more than 500 previously unknown archaeological complexes and monuments of the Bronze and Iron Age on the territory of Tarbagatai, Kalba, Chingistau. We can note a special contribution of A.Toleubaev to science in recent years - the work on the restoration of Shilikta "Golden Man". He is also one of the first researchers of the Kazakh diaspora abroad.

As a result, the gold jewelry, named "image of the leopard" became the badge of the Kazakhstan Academy of Arts. "Shilikta deer" - approved as the logo of the Congress of Historians of Kazakhstan. Shilikta "Golden Man" was exhibited in London, Moscow, Kazan.

Books of Abdesh Toleubaev "Orenburg Kazakhs", "Archaeology of Kazakhstan", "Treasures of steppe chiefs", "Kazakh customs and traditions" were included in a large scientific turnover. The well-known scientist, archaeologist-ethnologist wrote more than 30 monographs and textbooks, more than 400 scientific articles.

For his significant work he was recognized in the international scientific environment. He was honored with such awards as the order "Kurmet", medal "For Valorous Labor". He is also a laureate of the Shokan Ualikhanov Prize, academician of the Academy of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the conference the participants discussed the essays of Abdesh Toleubaev, scientific researches of the scientist, actual problems of ancient and medieval archeology, ethnic history and ethno-cultural processes, field materials of archeological and ethnographic expeditions, methods of study, preservation and museumization of historical and cultural heritage. The book "Ғibratty ғұmyr" was also presented and a documentary film about the life and work of Abdesh Toleubaev was shown.

During the conference, famous historians Zeinollah Samashev, Mambet Koigeldiev, Madiyar Yeleuov, Khangeldy Abzhanov, Ziyabek Kabuldinov spoke and shared their memories of the archaeologist.
