KazNU scientists met with specialists of Xinjiang Medical University

As part of a working visit to China, the delegation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University headed by the Chairman of the Board - Rector Zhanseit Tuimebaev visited Xinjiang Medical University in Urumqi.

During the visit the head of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev held a meeting with the president of Xinjiang Medical University Lu Chen. The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation, as well as the development and implementation of joint scientific projects and educational programs.

Zhanseit Tuimebayev told Lu Chen about the current activities of the leading higher education institution of the country and the dynamically developing partnership of KazNU with higher education institutions of the People's Republic of China.

"Al-Farabi Kazakh National University actively cooperates with universities, institutes, organizations around the world, including universities in China.  To date, the university has 57 agreements with higher education institutions of the PRC. KazNU has the Department of Chinese Studies and Confucius Institute, which successfully train specialists in Chinese studies. KazNU in partnership with universities of China opened three centers: Kazakhstan Center at Beijing Foreign Languages University, Kazakhstan Center at Shanghai University and Beijing University of Language and Culture", - said the rector of KazNU.

In addition, in his speech Zhanseit Tuimebaev voiced a proposal to jointly open a hospital, as well as opening a branch of KazNU at SMU.

In turn, the president of Xinjiang Medical University Lu Chen expressed his gratitude for the visit to the institution of higher education and spoke about the history of SMU.

"Xinjiang Medical University is a famous medical institution located in Urumqi city.  Our university was founded in 1957. At present, Xinjiang Medical University has 28,500 students. The number of faculty members is 17,290 and the number of international students is more than 500.  The university has more than 10 affiliated hospitals and more than 60 teaching hospitals, where students are given practical experience in their fields of study," Lu Chen said.

At the end of the meeting, the president of SMU expressed mutual interest in the development of cooperation between universities.

During the visit to SMU delegation of KazNU also familiarized with the activities of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where a memorandum of cooperation between KazNU and the Institute of Ecology and Geography was signed.
