KazNU will expand cooperation with French universities

Chairman of the Board - Rector of the University Zhanseit Tuimebayev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to the Republic of Kazakhstan Didier Caness in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

In his welcoming speech the head of the university thanked for the visit and interest in establishing cooperation between the universities of France and Kazakhstan. Al-Farabi KazNU has a rich experience of scientific and educational interaction with universities, institutes, organizations of France in the field of science, higher education and cultural interaction. One of the achievements of cooperation with the University of Lorraine is the implementation of educational program of double degree "Mechanics and Energy" at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. To date, more than 100 master's students and 20 doctoral students have been trained. At the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, joint educational programs "Oil and Gas Engineering" and "Abai-Vern" are implemented jointly with the University of Lorraine, and a double degree program "Mathematics (URSA)" is implemented with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne.

According to the results of the meeting in Paris within the VIII forum of rectors of higher education institutions of Kazakhstan and France, the agreement on exchange of students under the program "Erasmus+" with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne was signed. At the moment 4 students of the Faculty of International Relations are studying at the University of Reims under the program "Erasmus+".

Within the framework of academic mobility in 2023/24 academic year 36 students, 5 doctoral students, 12 teachers of KazNU visited the universities of France, participating in various conferences, advanced training courses, implementing joint projects. 11 students from universities of France are studying at the university, French scientists are attracted to give lectures and provide scientific guidance to PhD doctoral students. From 2018-2023. Al-Farabi KazNU was visited by 16 professors from French universities.

"The field for further enhancing cooperation with French higher education institutions is vast. In addition to the implementation of joint projects of the University Agency of Francophonie AUF, Erasmus+ and Horizon 2023-25, strengthening the French Central Asian Studies and interaction with the French Institute for Central Asian Studies (IFEAC), we can create research centers for the study of topical issues on culture and language and even open a branch of the leading university of France in KazNU", - suggested Zhanseit Kanseitovich.

In response, Mr. Ambassador thanked for the warm welcome and expressed support for the idea of opening a branch of the University of France in KazNU and other initiatives of the university management. During the meeting the parties discussed issues of development of cooperation in the field of science and higher education.
