International winter school “Modern technologies for organizing science and education”

The day before, the International Winter School “Modern technologies for organizing science and education” was held at the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The international winter school was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the university.

Modern university training at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is focused on producing highly qualified specialists who are able not only to think professionally, but also to make non-standard technically sound and economically feasible decisions, taking into account the achievements of science and technology. University graduates must be capable of constant self-improvement, master innovation and participate in the execution and implementation of start-ups. The implementation of start-ups involves the involvement of practice-oriented training, which is implemented with the participation of research organizations, centers and enterprises that are bases for the implementation of production practices. In solving current problems, special attention is also paid to improving educational innovative programs, such as MOOCs, virtual laboratories, etc.

Students from higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took part in the winter school. A total of 80 people participated, including teachers from the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute, Navoi State Mining and Technology University, and Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabaev. Also present were representatives of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan: Eurasian National University named after L. Gumilyov, South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov, North Kazakhstan University named after M. Kozybayev, Almaty Technological University, Karaganda University named after E. Buketov, East Kazakhstan University named after S. Amanzholova, Kyzylorda University named after Korkyt Ata, Taraz Regional University named after H. Dulati, West Kazakhstan Agro-Technical University named after Zhangirkhan, Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov, Institute of Chemical Sciences named after A. Bekturov, Kazakh National University named after Al- Farabi.

During the event, the experiences, problems and prospects of practice-oriented training, MOOCs (massively open online course) were highlighted, as well as analyzes of students’ skills from the perspective of production and organization of startups in various countries, the speakers were associate professors Iskakova R.A., Narenova S.M., Vasilina G.K., domestic representative of business and production, tech broker Erbolat Orazbekuly, as well as foreign speaker from the University of Graz (Austria) Professor Kammar Abbas and manager of the Israeli startup CoolVOC Imangalieva Ainur.

Students of the winter school showed particular interest in the issues of the credit system of practice-oriented learning technology, the creation of massive open online courses (MOOCs), as well as the introduction of MOOCs and startups into the educational process, which can become an effective lever for modernizing the activities of universities in the training of highly competent specialists.
