Institute of Asian Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a round table on the topic “Ethnocultural enclaves as a factor in preserving collective identity”
On February 23, 2024, the Institute of Asian Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a round table on the topic “Ethnocultural enclaves as a factor in preserving collective identity.”
The event was opened by a special guest - Aleksey Aleksandrovich Suslov (Volgograd State University, Russian Federation), who outlined the importance of studying the issue of enclaves on ethnocultural grounds and the need to study this phenomenon in the context of modern globalization processes.
As part of the round table, Julia Fridrikhovna Kelman (Ministry of Absorption of Israel) made a report “On the typology of ethnic enclaves “from the threshold to the museum” (using the example of US cities)”, Elena Nikolaevna Nazemtseva (Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Department of China, RF) - "The reasons for the formation of Russian enclaves in the Chinese borderland and the peculiarities of their preservation of ethnocultural identity (using the example of the Russians of the Three Rivers and Xinjiang)", Vadim Sergeevich Akulenko (Chung-Ang University, Korea) - "The phenomenon of ethnocultural enclaves of Russian-speaking Koreans "Koryoin Maeul" in South Korea" аnd the round table program was completed by Kim German Nikolaevich (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan) with a speech on the topic “The phenomenon of Koriatowns - areas of compact settlement and contact zones in the Russian Far East of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”
Each report was commented on by Erkin Ulanovich Baidarov (Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B. Suleimenov), highlighting the essence of the report, as well as noting the relevance of the content and drawing parallels with the realities of Kazakhstan.
Among the guests of the event were Syzdykova M.B. All participants of the round table, both speakers and listeners, actively took part in the discussion of the reports heard, and 4 hours passed unnoticed by everyone.
On March 20, 2024, the 2nd round table will be held offline and online on the topic “Ethnic entrepreneurship in the immigrant and diaspora environment.”
