15 march, 2024

Senior Lecturer at the Department of Customs, Finance and Environmental Law, Faculty of Law, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.  On March 15, 2024, Yessekeeva A. A. held an event with students of 303 groups on 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Of the 17 CIS goals, 15 raised issues on the protection and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems, and many issues were discussed. Today, 40% of the world's soils are under erosion. This phenomenon affects the well-being of approximately 3.2 billion people. According to United Nations forecasts, by 2050, drought could negatively affect 75% of the world's population. Already 52% of agricultural land is worn out. Given that 2.6 billion people worldwide depend on agricultural income, this means that they are directly threatened by drought.
Due to drought, 12 million hectares (23 hectares per minute) are lost annually. And about 20 million tons of grain can be grown on such volumes.
The problem of drought is one of the most urgent in our country. Already 2/3 of the territory of Kazakhstan is under threat of drought, and 23.5% of the country's population lives in degraded areas. According to the forecasts of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, if the problem of drought is not solved, then at the end of the century the risk of turning the Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions into a desert is very high.
The issues discussed are very relevant and important for every student.
