KazNU hosted the II Forum of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Kazakhstan and Russia
The II Forum of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Kazakhstan and Russia was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The international forum "Current trends in higher education and science" was attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Konstantin Mogilevsky, the Rector of the National Nuclear Research University MEPHI Vladimir Shevchenko, the Chairman of the Board - the Rector of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, the Vice-Rector of the Eurasian National University named after L. Gumilyova Lyazzat Nurkatova, the Vice-Rector of the St. Petersburg State University Sergey Andryushin. N. Gumilyova Lyazzat Nurkatova, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of St. Petersburg State University Sergey Andryushin, Rectors of 50 universities in Russia and 40 universities in Kazakhstan.
The main goal of the event is to develop ties between the universities of the two countries. Thus, mutually beneficial relations between representatives of science and education are formed, internationalization of higher education will be strengthened, ways of development of academic mobility of students and teachers will expand.
With a congratulatory speech opened the event Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, noting that between Kazakhstan and Russia has established a long-standing and fruitful cooperation in the field of science and higher education.
"Today, branches of 6 leading Russian universities have been opened in Kazakhstan. The first branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University was opened in 2001. Then came a branch of MAI "Voskhod" in Baikonur, a branch of ChelSU in Kostanay, NNRU MEPhI in KazNU, as well as branches of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions and the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin. And the seventh is the opening of a branch of the Russian Chemical-Technological University named after D.I. Mendeleev on the basis of the Taraz Regional University named after M.H. Dulati. In addition, this year we plan to open a branch of Al-Farabi KazNU in Omsk. 1700 agreements were signed between universities and institutes of Kazakhstan and Russia. 25 joint scientific projects have been successfully implemented. We are interested in further deepening of our brotherly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of science and higher education. I believe it is necessary to mobilise joint ideas and proposals, to further develop a concrete plan of action," said Sayasat Nurbek.
The forum was addressed by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, who emphasised that the Rectors' Forum, held on the basis of KazNU, will take the partnership between the universities of the two countries to a new level.
"We have many ties with Kazakhstan. We have established both friendly and business relations, a lot of similar trends. Today we are interested in expanding scientific cooperation with Kazakhstan. We are very happy that Russian universities are successfully operating in your country. We would like the branches to provide students with quality education and help them build professional careers. I am sure that formal communication within the framework of the Forum will lead to the creation of new ties. And it is important and necessary for us to discuss the implementation of joint programmes, including internships for teachers and the opening of scientific centres," said Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky.
For his part, Zhanseit Tuimebaev, rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, said: "This forum will be a platform for the exchange of experience and knowledge.
"Today we have gathered within the walls of our university to discuss current trends in higher education and science. As one of the oldest and leading universities in the country, KazNU continues to build its scientific and educational potential. The University sets a high bar for itself - to become a world-class research university and to achieve international competitiveness in the field of science and education among the top universities of the world. 2024 is an anniversary year for our university. Global scientific conferences, summits and symposia are planned. I invite you to join the celebration of the anniversary and take part in important educational and scientific events of our university and the international scientific and educational space", - said Zhanseit Tuimebayev.
During the forum, Vladimir Shevchenko, Rector of the National Nuclear Research University MEPhI, presented his proposals for the development of relations between the two countries in the field of science and education.
Also speaking at the international event were Sergey Andryushin, Vice Rector for International Activities of St. Petersburg State University and Liazzat Nurkatova, Vice Rector of L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.
As a result of the Forum, an agreement was signed on the establishment of a branch of the D.I. Mendeleev Russian Chemical Technology University on the basis of the M.H. Dulati Taraz Regional University. Also, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and St. Petersburg State University signed an agreement on joint education of students within the framework of the CIS Network University, and L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University and L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University signed an agreement on joint education of students. L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University and Kazan Federal University on academic mobility in the field of implementation of foreign internship programmes for doctoral and postgraduate students.
