Scientific internship in the Ural Federal University named after the first president of Russia B.N. Yeltsin

27 march, 2024

Within the framework of SDG-4 "Quality of Education" in the period from March 16 to March 27, 2024, the 2nd year master students of the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Organic Substances, Natural Compounds and Polymers - Dubrovsky Vladislav, Balabaeva Aidana and Kurmanova Zhuldyzai underwent a scientific internship in one of the leading universities of the Russian Federation - in the Ural Federal University named after the first president of Russia B.N. Yeltsin (Ekaterinburg), which is included in the top 350 world universities in the QS World University Rankings. Master's students were very warmly welcomed, Dr. Vladimir Rusinov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told about the main directions of work of the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis of the Scientific-Educational and Innovation Center of Chemical-Pharmaceutical Technologies HTI UrFU and the Department of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry HTI UrFU. Doctor of chemical sciences, Professor Grigory Zyryanov - the head of the scientific internship - conducted a tour of the Institute. The guys note that the Institute has a large research and production area and has a powerful scientific and technical base. The Institute implements research projects in a variety of areas, in particular, within the walls of the research institute works on the synthesis of promising chemiluminescent ligands, the development of sensors for rapid detection of diseases and determination of various biochemical indicators in human biological fluids, molecular design of new antiviral, antitumor, antiparkinsonian drugs. Synthetic research is well coordinated: after obtaining a new compound in pure form, researchers send it to the third floor of the institute, where biologists do preclinical in vitro tests of the new compound on various cell cultures and select potentially the most promising substances for in-depth study. If the new compound is obtained for photonics applications, its photophysical properties are investigated. In addition, the institute also has a large laboratory for refining and scaling the synthesis of new organic compounds for the transfer of technological regulations to chemical-pharmaceutical plants. During the internship the guys performed a number of works on their planned scientific works - recorded NMR and mass spectra of their synthesized compounds, obtained hydrogels, studied their structure and properties using IR spectrometer and scanning electron microscope (SEM), antibacterial activity of the obtained hydrogels was also studied. The guys thank Prof. G.V. Zyryanov, who during the whole internship of our master students provided all kinds of assistance and consultative help. In general, the guys evaluate the internship as extremely fruitful and interesting.
