World Book and Copyright Day

On April 23, 2024, the annual book festival “Kitapshow-2024” was held at the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, dedicated to the World Book and Copyright Day, which is celebrated by millions of people in more than a hundred countries around the world. 

The aim  of the festival is to increase reader activity,  to develop cognitive interest in books and reading fiction, and to  form an information culture of the individual and a culture of reading. 

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev constantly pays special attention to reading. At the third meeting of the national kurultai, the President reiterated the importance of the role of the book: "First of all, we must instill in young people a love of reading. The most significant steps to the progress of our nation are books. Therefore, we must consistently establish a high culture of reading in society."

The 2nd year foreign students of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature of the Philological Faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University were the  participants of the festival today, which was held in a bright, beautiful atmosphere.

 Such a large-scale event is important for society, especially for young people.

The festival consisted of:

- book exhibitions, a fair of leading Kazakhstani publishers;

- memorial evening "Shaken Aimanov - "Kazakh kinosyn atasy", dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the outstanding actor, director of theater and cinema;

- interactive event "Aesthetics of intercultural dialogue", held by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian House in Almaty, with the participation of Kazakhstani and Russian writers;

-master class on expressive reading “Syrly soz sikyry”;

- fair of products of the national decorative and applied arts and many others.
