Scientist of KazNU took part in the UN conference on tourism in Indonesia

The opening of the ІІ UN Regional Conference on Tourism on Empowering Women in Tourism in Asia and the Pacific took place in Indonesia, where Aliya Aktymbaeva, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Associate Professor, made a report.

 

The event, organized by UN Tourism together with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia and Bali Polytechnic Institute of Tourism, attracted more than a thousand participants.

The opening ceremony was addressed by distinguished personalities including Mr. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Mr. Irjen Mahendra Jaya, Mayor of Bali City, and Mr. Harry Hwang, Director of the Asia and Pacific Regional Department of UN Tourism.

On the first day of the conference there were panel discussions dedicated to strengthening the role of women in sustainable tourism development, the main moderator of which was Angela Herliani Tanoesoedibjo, Vice Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia.

At the plenary session the dean of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Associate Professor Aliya Aktymbaeva made a report. She noted the openness of our university and the Republic of Kazakhstan to strengthening the role of women in the development of domestic tourism in Kazakhstan, and emphasized the contribution of the academic community to the development of sustainable and inclusive approaches in the tourism sector.

Within the framework of the conference Aliya Sagyndykovna held a number of meetings with representatives of the UN on tourism, discussing the possibility of organizing an international forum on the basis of KazNU in honor of the 90th anniversary of the university.

Aliya Sagyndykova's report and participation in the ІІ UN Regional Conference on Tourism, as well as work on the preparation of a preliminary agreement on holding a similar conference in Kazakhstan are directly related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #5 "Gender Equality" - the university makes a huge contribution to strengthening women's empowerment in the tourism industry; #8 "Decent Work and Economic Growth" - promotion of sustainable tourism that creates jobs and contributes to local development; #17 "Partnerships for Sustainable Development" - under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); #18 "Sustainable Development Goals" - promotion of sustainable tourism that creates jobs and contributes to local development; #18 "Sustainable Development Goals" - promotion of sustainable tourism that creates jobs and contributes to local development

These efforts show how academic and public institutions can work together with international organizations to advance sustainable development and create a more inclusive and equitable society.
