Global Minimum Tax: a stress test for the banking sector?

4 may, 2024

Today there was a guest lecture by Alessandro Chiari, who is a 3rd year doctoral student of the PHD program of Karls-Universität Prag, Czech Republic. Bachelor's and Master's students were invited.

The topic of the lecture: Global Minimum Tax: a stress test for the banking sector?

The lecture was given in English. Alessandro analyzed the impact of the global minimum tax on the financial, namely the banking sector of the European Union. During the lecture he presented the stages of the study, the data sources and the econometric analysis of his own model. The student studied theoretical and practical aspects of the study and concluded with the opinion that the majority of banks that were characterized by high profitability may face additional risks due to the approved tax. However, other financial enterprises will not feel any special effect.

At the end of the lecture, students and professors asked questions on the topic of tax and econometric significance of the model.

We would like to believe that this meeting was the beginning of long-term cooperation and strengthening of international cooperation between universities and students (SDG4, SDG17).
