Students of KazNU visited the Museum of victims of political repressions
Students of the History Faculty of Al-Farabi KazNU visited the Museum of Victims of Political Repressions in the village of Zhanalyk, Talgar district, Almaty region.
The event was organized on the eve of the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions. The excursion was supplemented with a lecture by the museum staff. The students visited the funds and exhibition halls, familiarized themselves with the activities of the museum and scientific works of the staff.
Last year students of specialties “Archaeology” and “History” participated in the search and research of burial places of victims of political repressions. The project was led by the Dean of the Faculty of History Dosbol Baigunakov.
KazNU realized the project jointly with the state historical and cultural museum-reserve “Esik”, where for the first time in Kazakhstan the mass graves of the repressed were investigated.
Students of specialties “Ethnology and Anthropology” and “Museum Business and Monument Protection” assisted in the preparation of materials for reburial. They took part in compiling lists of finds, in clearing objects, preparing for the burial of remains of victims of political repression, familiarized themselves with the conclusions of forensic experts.
In the process of implementation of the project of the IIC RK “Archaeological verification and historical identification of remains of victims of political repressions in the village of Zhanalyk, Almaty region: interdisciplinary research” hundreds of artifacts and remains of about 100 people were obtained, revealing some problems of the study of victims of political repressions”.
It should be noted that the Faculty of History of Al-Farabi KazNU has been actively cooperating with the Museum of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions in the village of Zhanalyk since 2018.
