Forum on Theories and Current Issue in Translation Studies
In the second term Faculty of Philology organized a symposium "Exploring Translation: Insights and Practices" as part of the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
Hosted by the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies, the event aimed to foster intellectual discussion among linguists, philologists and translators, bringing together faculty, doctoral students and undergraduates to explore current challenges and innovations in the field.
Dr. Asel Bayeli, a candidate in philological sciences, skillfully moderated the event with assistance from the first-year doctoral students U.Bailiyeva, A.Muratova, and M. Khassanova. Each presenter succinctly shared their research findings, sparking engaging conversations among participants. The moderator's opening remarks set the tone for a series of insightful discussions, featuring distinguished speakers who captivated the audience with eight-minute presentations. The speakers were Pr. L. Musaly, Dr. A. Alpysbaeva, I. Azimbayeva, R. Torekhanova, A. Stambeckova. All of them gave very informative and interesting presentations on a wide range of topics on the on pertinent issues in the current state of translation studies in Kazakhstan and abroad. Professor L. Musaly gave talk on the topic "History and Future of Artistic Translation”, Dr. Aigul Alpysbaeva delved into the "Modern Kazakh Translation Industry," examining the transformative impact of globalization and digital technologies on future translation practices, I. Azimbayeva in her presentation "Abai Kunanbayev's Legacy," highlighted the challenges of translating cultural nuances across linguistic boundaries and emphasizing effective intercultural communication in the contemporary science of translation studies, R. Torekhanova spoke on an interesting topic "Representation of Gender Differences in Language and Translation," devoted to the questions of gender linguistics and gender interactions, A. Stambeckova concluded the discussion with a presentation on the "Challenges of Translating Slang from English to Russian and Kazakh Languages in Fiction," paying homage to the complexities of linguistic adaptation and cultural localization.
The symposium showcased the commitment of the Faculty of Philology of KazNU to interdisciplinary dialogue and academic excellence in translation studies. It underscored the crucial role of translation scholars in bridging linguistic and cultural gaps, emphasizing the need for ongoing collaboration to advance translation as both an art and a science.
