Professor Utegali Shedenov

Utegali Kadyrgalievich was born on March 8, 1939, in the village of Azgir, Kurmangazy district, Atyrau region. He is an economist with a Ph.D. in Economics (1979) and has been a professor since 1980. He has also been a full member of the International Academy of Informatization since 1995, the Academy of Social Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1997, the International Economic Academy of Eurasia since 1998, and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences since 2014. He is currently a professor at the National Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

Professor Shedenov gra­duated from the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov (now known as KazNU named after Al-Farabi) in 1961 and completed postgraduate studies at the Russian Uni­ver­sity of Economics (formerly known as the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy) in 1965. He defended his Ph.D. thesis in the same year and has since then made significant contributions to the field of economics.After graduation, he worked as an assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor, and dean of the Almaty Institute of National Economy (now Nakhchivan State University), from 1965 to 1978. He was also the head of a scientific group at the Ministry of Higher Education of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic at the Almaty Institute. From 1966 to 1978, he served as the head of the educational department and rector of the Higher Economic School of the Almaty City Committee and regional party committee for senior officials. From 1979 to 2002, he was head of the Department of Political Economy and Economic Theory at Akhmet Yassawi University, Kazakh State Institute of Agriculture, and Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi. During this time, he also served as the first deputy chairman of the Council for the Study of Productive Forces at the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. From 1985 to 1989, he headed the department and was involved in the study of productive forces. For many years, he was a public lecturer and the chairman of the Audit Commission at the «Knowledge» Society of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. From 1995 to 2002, he served as the head of the Department of Economic Theory and Deputy Director of the Institute for Economic and Legal Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Since the fall of 2002, he has been a professor in the departments of Economic Theory, Management, and Marketing at the Higher School of Economics and Business at KazNU.

The total experience of the scientific and pedagogical activity of Professor U.K. Shedenov is 64 years. During this time, he has dealt with various aspects of macro and microeconomic theory, as well as the service sector, consumer goods, and the infras­tructure of society. Through extensive research and teaching, Professor Shedenov has become a well-known figure in the Republic and abroad. He has enriched science with new and promising directions at different stages of Kazakhstan's economic development. During the period of transition to market relations, he conducted original theoretical research on the trans­formation of the economy. Pro­fes­sor Shedenov's de­di­cation to science and education is unparalleled. He has given all his strength, talent, and abilities to these fields. Today, he is a member of the Presidium of the Plenum of Veterans of the Bostandyk District and the Chairman of the Veterans' Organization at KazNU.
