KazNU created an archaeological expedition with Cambridge scientists
The archaeological expedition "Tarbagatai" of Al-Farabi KazNU conducts field research in the Abay region.
The expedition is made up of doctoral, master's and undergraduate students of KazNU, as well as young scientists from Cambridge University.
This project is implemented in the Ushbulak complex within the framework of the scientific grant of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the theme "Archaeological complexes of the Early Iron Age in the southern slopes of Tarbagatai: interdisciplinary research".
The archaeological complex Ushbulak is located near the village of Taskesken in Urjar district of Abay region. This complex contains ancient settlements, funerary structures and rock paintings.
Excavation work was carried out at one of the dwellings of Ushbulak-1 settlement. As a result, fragments of pottery, osteological material and tools were found. Several stone planes with ancient drawings located near the settlement were also photographed. The planes depict images of different composition, most of which belong to the Early Iron Age.
The expedition staff organised field trips for schoolchildren in the village of Taskesken and gave short lectures on archaeological science.
