30 september, 2024

On October 30, 2024,  Professor of the Department of Chinese Studies F.N. Daulet held an open lesson for teachers of the Faculty of Oriental Studies on the topic "Linguocultural and linguocognitive aspects of literary translation". During the open lesson, the following topical issues were considered:

• the complexity of the "translatability" of individual linguistic units of different levels (for example, linguistic lacunae, phraseological units, occasional words, some grammatical forms and syntactic constructions);

• strong influence of the translator as a separate linguistic personality on the quality and content of the translation;

 • the inability to fully convey the subject-logical content, stylistic and figurative elements of the original work, as well as the peculiarities of the national mentality and culture;

• problems of hyperconnection and hypersemanization of all elements of a literary text;

• problems of updating case-law texts;

• problems of using linguistic elements belonging to different linguistic cultures in the same text. During the open lesson, 2nd year undergraduates studying in the specialty "Translation Studies " demonstrated their skills in artistic translation based on the story " Crescent Moon" by the famous Chinese writer Lao She. Summing up the results of the open lesson, Professor Daulet noted that the urgent problems of literary translation at the present stage are: the preservation of national identity, the peculiarities of the author's style, as well as the need to find a compromise between the accuracy of conveying meaning and the beauty of translation. Faculty teachers who attended the open lesson noted the importance of such open lessons, through which young faculty teachers have the opportunity to learn from the rich knowledge of experienced professors.
