Slavic-Turkic World’ conference in Chuvashia
A Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation titled “The Slavic-Turkic World: History and Modernity” was held in Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Education of the Chuvash Republic, I.N. Ulianov Chuvash State University, and other scientific and educational institutions.
The aim of the conference was to consolidate the efforts of researchers in the humanities working on the history and culture of Slavic and Turkic peoples, their shared historical past, and the study of their ethnocultural interactions.
At the official opening, speeches were delivered by the Head of the Chuvash Republic Oleg Nikolaev, the Minister of Education Dmitry Zakharov, and other honored guests. A greeting from the Chairman-Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhansseit Kanseitovich Tuimebayev, was also read, noting that “The Chuvash Republic exemplifies a successful combination of traditions and modern achievements, ensuring stable development and prosperity. The conference is an important step toward mutually beneficial cooperation, sustainable development, and forms a solid foundation for future generations.”
During the plenary session, reports were presented by renowned scholars, including Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Layla Seysembeckovna Akhmetova from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
At the sectional session “Slavic-Turkic Cultural Dialogue: History and Modernity”, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor and Executive Director of the Institute of Turkology and Altaistics, Nursulu Jamalbekovna Shaymerdenova, delivered a report titled “Glosses in Written Sources as a Reflection of Turkic-Slavic Linguistic Contacts”, in which she examined the influence of Turkic languages on Slavic written sources, analyzing glosses as key elements of these linguistic contacts.
In her presentation, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Turkology and Altaistics, Djemma Bolatovna Amanzholova, discussed the concept of “Shanyrak” as an important element of Eurasian linguistic culture, highlighting its symbolic and practical significance in the lives of Turkic peoples.
The conference served as a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas among scholars from different countries. Over 130 historians, linguists, sociologists, ethnologists, and other researchers from major scientific and educational institutions of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan participated. The forum also included meetings with renowned scholars, such as Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Nikolay Ivanovich Egorov (Cheboksary) and Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of a Department at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), among others.
As a result of the conference, agreements were reached on cooperation between Kazakh and Russian scholars, including plans for joint research projects and publications.
