8 october, 2024

The foreign internship conducted by PhD student of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Gulzat Kairanova, at the University of Medical Sciences in Istanbul under the grant of "Tauelsizdik Urpaktary" contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4 ("Quality Education") and SDG 15 ("Preservation of Terrestrial Ecosystems").

Quality education is aimed at ensuring equal access to quality education and supporting lifelong learning opportunities. Thanks to the state grant approved by the head of state, young scientists such as Gulzat Kairanova can participate in international scientific internships, which allows them to deepen their knowledge and professional skills. The studies conducted in the laboratory of medicinal and aromatic plants emphasize the importance of high-quality education and scientific research for the development of innovative approaches in medicine and pharmacology. Terrestrial ecosystem conservation focuses on the protection and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity. During the internship, the biological activity of the extracts was investigated, which demonstrated significant antioxidant activity, moderate cytotoxic effects and antimicrobial properties. These results confirm the potential of the new source for the development of antimicrobial and anticancer drugs, which emphasizes the need to protect and rationally use biodiversity to improve human health. In addition, the international experience gained within the framework of this scientific internship allows the PhD student not only to improve her qualifications, but also to advance scientific research at the global level.
