Decent Work and Economic Growth: The Golden Bridge of Information – the Librarian.
Within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals №17. Partnership for Sustainable Development
On October 21, 2024, a round table on the topic "Decent Work and Economic Growth: The Golden Bridge of Information – the Librarian" was held, dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals in Kazakhstan. The event was organized by B.S. Asanova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences, lecturers G.M. Abikova, M.A. Khodzhabay and 1st and 2nd year master's students of the specialty "7M03206-Library and Information Systems".
On November 14, 2006, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a crucial political document for the country was prepared – the Concept of Transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Sustainable Development for 2007-2024. This concept is aimed at eliminating inequality and achieving compliance. The transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to sustainable development is carried out in stages: eradication of poverty, elimination of hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth.
Objective: To determine the role of the library in increasing the demand for the profession of a librarian in the context of informatization and digitalization of society, as well as in shaping the modern image of the profession.
Within the framework of the round table, senior lecturers of the department B.S. Asanova, G.M. Abikova, M.A. Khodzhabay spoke about the history of formation and development of the Sustainable Development Goals, about what changes they will bring to the world and what contribution library specialists can make to their achievement. The head of the A.P. Chekhov Central City Library, Kuramysova Tolқyn Alizhankizy, the librarian of the book depository and subscription department of the Republican Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired Citizens of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Satbay Gulsaya Ganibekkizy, the methodologist of the department for the development of librarianship, bibliography and typhlology, Abduraxmanova Zhadyra Ilyasқizy, spoke about the demand for libraries today, about their professional activities, about the image of the librarian profession and modern service models, about the features of service and achievements of libraries, and also discussed emerging problems. 1st and 2nd year master's students of the specialty "Library and Information Systems" presented presentations on the contribution of Kazakhstan libraries and library specialists to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the round table, the lecturers of the department, invited specialists and 1st and 2nd year students of the specialty "Library and Information Systems" exchanged views and held a lively discussion on the questions posed.
