The Faculty of Oriental Studies held a lecture by Grandmaster Svetlana Kan according to the SDGs of KazNU “Gender Equality”
On October 24, 2024, the Faculty of Oriental Studies hosted a lecture by Svetlana Olegovna Kan, a member of the Presidium of the Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan, a professor at the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism, an absolute champion of Asia and the world in taekwondo, and an 8th dan holder – Grandmaster Svetlana Olegovna Kan. The lecture, organized as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focused on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The topic of the lecture, "Take Control of the Threat," was carefully chosen. Svetlana Olegovna entered the world of sports after going through challenging life experiences that taught her resilience and overcoming adversity. This experience inspired her journey into taekwondo, ultimately leading to her outstanding achievements and the title of Grandmaster. In her lecture, she shared personal stories of struggle and how sports became a source of strength and confidence for her.
"We must learn to take control of threats, whether they are physical threats or social pressure. Gender equality begins with inner confidence and the readiness to defend our rights," Grandmaster Kan emphasized in her speech.
The lecture sparked keen interest among students and faculty and became an important milestone in educational initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality. At the conclusion of the lecture, students asked many engaging questions, not only about sports and self-defense but also about Svetlana Olegovna’s personal journey. The questions covered topics such as motivation, overcoming fears and challenges, and the role of women in sports and society. The answers to these questions provided an inspiring conclusion to the event, reinforcing in young people the drive for self-improvement and the fight for their rights.
