On October 25, faculty members held duty hours in Dormitory #6. That evening, from 18:00 to 20:00, the Deputy Head of the Department of Mathematics K. Dosmagulova delivered a lecture on the topic “The Impact of Solar Energy on the Future of Kazakhstan.”
The event was dedicated to the celebration of Republic Day and aligned with the seventh Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy sources for all.
The lecture sparked great interest among faculty students residing in the dormitory. Throughout the lecture, the potential and prospects of solar energy for Kazakhstan – a country with abundant solar resources – were examined, along with key pathways that could make Kazakhstan a leader in this area. The Deputy Head of the Department emphasized how the development of renewable energy sources, including solar energy, could significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions, improving the environment, and enhancing the country’s energy independence.
The purpose of the event is closely tied to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Primarily, the lecture aligns with SDG #7, which focuses on ensuring access to sustainable energy sources. Providing accessible, reliable, and sustainable energy is a critical step toward an environmentally friendly and sustainable future for Kazakhstan. Additionally, the event supports SDG #13, which addresses climate action, as solar energy plays a key role in mitigating climate risks associated with traditional energy sources.
The lecture was also associated with SDG #4 – “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” The speaker aimed not only to impart knowledge but also to offer a vivid example of the importance of active youth participation in sustainable development and fostering an environmentally conscious outlook.
Thus, the event in Dormitory #6 served not only as an educational experience but also as an encouragement for students to reflect on their roles in building a sustainable future. The faculty members and leadership of the Department of Mathematics plan to continue organizing similar sessions and discussions to broaden students’ perspectives and draw attention to key issues in sustainable development in Kazakhstan.
